FAQs
Better for the Environment
- No Blackwater permeating the aquifer.
- Does not use clean drinking water to flush away waste.
- Reduces Carbon Footprint by eliminating using treated, purified water to flush away waste.
Zero Water Use
- Can save over 35,000 litres of water per year per family, or around 40% of a household’s water use.
- Ideal for Off Grid, Tiny Home and Motorhome applications where water collection, storage and disposal are difficult.
- Great for rural settings with households that are on tank water and are looking to reduce water usage where running out of water means trucking it in.
Low Cost
- Septic Tank systems can cost around $15,000 to $25,000 to install.
- Waterless Composting Toilets are a fraction of that cost, at around $2,000 for quality models with plenty of functionality.
- Low to zero running costs (just the cost of composting medium such as sawdust or coconut coir).
Self Contained
- No underground water pipes in, no waste pipes out means you can move your Tiny Home/Motorhome easily. Park anywhere, move anywhere.
No Odour
- Venting systems dry solids speeding the composting process.
Council Compliant
Our OGO Origin and Nature’s Head Composting Toilets meet building code and can gain Building Consent as they have achieved the PASS Product Assurance Supplier Statement, the only two composting toilets to achieve this standard in New Zealand.
By separating the solid and the liquid waste into two separate compartments. The separation is key to creating the disposal of waste. When you separate solid waste from your urine you are creating two reusable materials that can be put back into the environment.
Smells less than a regular toilet.
Works by separating liquid waste from solid waste.
Environmentally friendly.
Saves a lot of water and energy.
Not adding waste to local waste plant if you can process this waste off-grid.
Free plant food.
Turns waste into usable compost.
Separate urine can be used as a nitrogen-rich fertilizer for old trees.
The time frame for this will depend on the number of people and the time period. Generally it would be about 25 to 30 uses for solids (14 days for two people, based on once per person per day) and assuming that you don’t load it up with excessive toilet tissue. Weekend use for two people could be a month or more.
Your solids comprise approximately 75% water, so as the fan draws air through the toilet it removes the moisture, thus reducing the mass of the solids. So, just a couple of days of non-use extends the period of time as the level of the compost will decrease. The toilet is designed for 1 to 3 adults full time use. Obviously ‘peak loading’ with larger guest numbers will mean that it needs to be emptied much sooner.

Toilets NZ
Founded by Alan Morton In 2012, Toilets NZ offered the Natures Head Composting Toilet, later adding the OGO Origin to the lineup, and in 2023 the OGO Nomad NZ which was specifically designed to meet the New Zealand Green Sticker Self Containment regulations for Campervans and RV’s.
Through his involvement the OGO Origin, and Nomad NZ Composting Toilets were the first to be approved for the ‘Green Sticker’ Certification in New Zealand.
He has remained continually ‘at the coal face’ through regular contact with Certifying Authorities, MBIE and the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board, over the implementation of the 2023 Regulations for Self Containment.
